The property extends on both sides of the North Fork of the South Platte River and has extensive river frontage. Eighteen acres on the southwest side of the river feature the Morrow Mountain trail system while two acres on the north side of the river provide a permanent location for a number of Park County historic buildings. The land was donated in 1969 by Helen McGraw-Tatum for the purpose of providing an area for Park County to showcase historic buildings and to provide a hiking and picnic area that maintains the natural beauty of Park County. Amenities include public restrooms, hiking trails, picnic areas, a kayak/raft launch, and a fishing area. See more about the park on the PCHS Website.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The Como Depot was completed in 1879 to service the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad (DSP&P) that ran through Como at that time. Como was an important railroad hub for the DSP&P with many branches, heading over Boreas Pass to Breckenridge and to the nearby King Coal Mines. In its heyday, the depot has bustling with activity, but as industry declined in South Park, so did the railroad. The railroad tracks were removed from Como in 1938 and the depot went through a variety of owners and uses, serving as a garage before falling into disrepair. New owners purchased the depot and neighboring hotel in 2008 and its major restoration was completed in 2014. You can currently view Como Depot and take a walking tour of Como via the signage in town where you can find out more history about the buildings. If you are interested in taking a more personal tour, reach out to the South Park Rail Society on Facebook.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][spacer][vc_custom_heading text=”South Park City Museum in Fairplay, Colorado” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:28|text_align:center” google_fonts=”font_family:Arvo%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]South Park City is a remarkable recreation of early high country mining towns, preserving the history of our nation’s frontier while educating and entertaining the present. Located in Fairplay, Colorado, the museum represents a mining town between 1860 and 1900. Thirty-four authentic buildings filled with over 60,000 artifacts portray many of the economic and social aspects of boomtown life. Seven of the buildings are on their original sites; the others have been moved from abandoned camps and ghost towns in South Park. The buildings contain period room settings and exhibits illustrating the professions, trades, and industries that contributed to life in a nineteenth-century Colorado mining town. South Park City Museum reopens for the season May 15th, 2022. Find out more at SouthParkCity.org.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][spacer][vc_custom_heading text=”Rocky Mountain Land Library in Garo, Colorado” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:28|text_align:center” google_fonts=”font_family:Arvo%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]At present, the Land Library’s physical locations are in the developmental stages and can be accessed through their scheduled programs and events, mostly occurring during the summer months. The Rocky Mountain Land Library’s mission is to help connect people to nature and the land. The need for places of quiet thought, creative pursuits, and active community involvement will only grow as our population increases. The residential library we will establish will give everyone access not only to the books, but also to the surrounding lands — a learning landscape for generations to come. Find out more at their website.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][spacer][vc_custom_heading text=”Guffey Garage in Guffey, Colorado” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:28|text_align:center” google_fonts=”font_family:Arvo%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The Guffey Garage is no longer a working auto garage, but has become more of a museum full of oddities, but they can help you with propane, ice, and custom welding jobs. When driving through Park County, it’s a great place to stop and take some photos at this quirky outdoor antique museum.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
