This 1.5 mile trail circles Jefferson Lake and provides access for fishing. The State of Colorado stocks Jefferson Lake with rainbow trout, Mackinaw, and lake trout. Scenic mountains surround the lake and a stream and small brook enter the lake on the north side. The trail is best on the eastern shore and makes a nice stroll for those who do not ordinarily hike. The trail on the western shore is more rocky.
From Highway 285 in Jefferson, turn onto County Road 35 to the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area. Follow County Road 37 to the Jefferson Lake Picnic Area and park. Please note that there is a $7 day use fee to enter the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area.
