Join the Mosquito Range Heritage Initiative (MRHI) for a hands-on environmental adventure during Huck Finn Day at Fairplay Beach on Saturday, June 7, from 10 AM to 12 PM! This special event, MacroinvertMischief, is designed especially for teens ages 12 to 16 and offers a unique and engaging opportunity to explore the world of river ecology through games, discovery, and interactive learning.

Participants will get their feet wet—literally and figuratively—as they explore the ecosystems that thrive in and around the Middle Fork of the South Platte River. Teens will learn how to identify river insects, understand the vital role macroinvertebrates play in local ecosystems, and even “think like a fish” as they gain a new perspective on river health and biodiversity.

Led by MRHI’s knowledgeable educators, this event includes:

  • ✅ Fun and educational games

  • ✅ Guided river insect exploration

  • ✅ Lessons on local aquatic ecosystems

  • ✅ Opportunities to connect with peers in nature

Whether your teen is a budding scientist, an outdoor enthusiast, or just curious about what lives beneath the water’s surface, MacroinvertMischief is the perfect chance to dive into nature while learning something new.

Pre-registration is required. Please email info@mrhi.org to sign up.

This free event is hosted in partnership with the South Park Prevention Coalition and aims to foster environmental stewardship and a love of the outdoors among local youth. Come dressed for outdoor fun and exploration, and don’t forget your sunscreen and water bottle!
