Step back in time and uncover the rich prehistoric history of South Park during Archaeology Day, taking place Saturday, July 12th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the Courthouse Lawn in Fairplay, Colorado. This free, family-friendly event invites the public to explore ancient traditions, tools, and techniques used by early inhabitants of the South Park region.
Hosted by the South Park Site Stewards, the day features a range of live demonstrations and educational displays for all ages. Visitors will get a chance to watch and participate in activities such as:

Flintknapping – learn how early peoples crafted stone tools.

Atlatl Throwing – try your hand at prehistoric spear throwing.

Volcanic Eruption Models – explore the geologic forces that shaped the land.

Throughout the day, interpreters will share insights into South Park’s rich archaeological legacy, helping attendees connect with the land and understand its long human history. Whether you’re a local history buff, an educator, a family with curious kids, or simply looking for a fun and educational outing, Archaeology Day offers something for everyone.
